Pakistani actress Ayman Saleem, daughter of former cricketer Saleem Yousuf, has joined the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), according to media reports. She announced her decision during a press conference in Karachi alongside PPP Sindh President Nisar Khuhro.
During the event, Ayman Saleem expressed confidence in the leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and senior party leader Faryal Talpur. Nisar Khuhro welcomed her decision to join the party and expressed his pleasure at her participation in PPP political activities.
The announcement comes as the PPP continues its political engagement in Sindh and other parts of Pakistan. The press conference also covered several national and provincial issues, including the possibility of imposing Governor Rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, proposals for creating new provinces and discussions surrounding the proposed 28th Constitutional Amendment.
Speaking about the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Khuhro said the province had faced security challenges for several years. However, he argued that imposing Governor Rule would not provide a permanent solution to the problems. He stressed the need for political consensus and a comprehensive strategy to address terrorism and improve security.
Khuhro also discussed proposals concerning the creation of new provinces. He said the Constitution of Pakistan sets out the procedure for such changes, including the requirement for a two-thirds majority in the relevant provincial assembly. He opposed proposals to create a new province in Sindh or alter its existing boundaries, warning that such discussions could generate political tensions.
Regarding the proposed 28th Constitutional Amendment, Khuhro described the debate as premature. He said the government did not currently have the two-thirds parliamentary majority required to pass a constitutional amendment. He also highlighted the political role of Maulana Fazlur Rehman’s party in the evolving situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The press conference brought together Ayman Saleem’s reported entry into the PPP and discussions on security, provincial boundaries and constitutional matters. Her decision marks a new development in her public life, while Khuhro’s remarks outlined the party leader’s views on several ongoing political debates.
