The Faisalabad administration has unveiled a new smart public transport initiative featuring the Faisalabad Public Transport App and plans to establish an electric vehicle (EV) battery-swapping network. The project aims to modernize public transportation, improve commuter convenience, and promote environmentally friendly travel across the Faisalabad Division.
According to Commissioner Faisalabad and President of the Faisalabad Urban Transport Society (FUTS), Imran Hamid Sheikh, the mobile application will integrate both government and private transport services onto a single digital platform. The system will cover all four districts of Faisalabad Division, allowing commuters to access transport information through one app.
One of the key features of the app is real-time vehicle tracking, enabling passengers to view the live location of government buses, metro buses, electric buses, and registered urban Hiace vehicles. This feature is expected to reduce waiting times and make public transport more reliable.
The application also includes a smart route planner, allowing users to enter their destination and receive the best travel route, including bus changes, connecting services, and estimated arrival times. Officials believe the feature will greatly benefit students, office workers, and visitors unfamiliar with city routes.
The Faisalabad Public Transport App will be available free of charge for commuters. However, transport operators must register and meet government requirements before joining the digital platform.
To further improve transport management, the administration will launch a digital vehicle registration system linked with the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB). Registration of public transport operators is expected to begin within the next 15 days to one month, followed by the official launch of the app.
The administration is also planning an EV battery-swapping network, allowing electric vehicle users to replace discharged batteries with fully charged ones within minutes. Officials say the initiative will encourage electric vehicle adoption, reduce charging delays, and support sustainable urban transportation in Faisalabad.
