Haripur Police Booked for Assault on Hattar Fire Victims’ Relatives, Officer Arrested

Police in Haripur have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against seven personnel, including a check post in-charge, over the alleged assault of relatives of victims who died in the Hattar fire incident.

The case is linked to a tragic gas pipeline explosion in Hattar that resulted in the deaths of eight people. Following the incident, serious allegations emerged that police officials used excessive force against grieving family members.

According to police officials, action was taken on the directives of the district police officer, leading to the arrest of Head Constable Yousaf, who was serving as the in-charge of the Farooqi Check Post. He has since been sent to judicial custody after being produced before a court.

The FIR, registered under relevant sections of the Pakistan Penal Code, states that Ahmed Ali, a resident of Labour Colony in Hattar and a relative of the deceased victims, was allegedly assaulted and seriously injured by police personnel. Reports indicate that he was taken to a police station and later released following public pressure.

During the incident, a video statement attributed to the accused officer surfaced on social media, in which he claimed innocence and blamed senior officials. However, police authorities clarified that the video was recorded before his arrest and rejected claims that he had attempted to flee.

Officials further emphasised that legal procedures have been followed, and the accused has been presented before a court, where judicial remand was granted. Authorities stated that the law applies equally to all individuals, including law enforcement personnel.

The case has drawn public attention, raising concerns about police conduct and accountability, particularly in sensitive situations involving victims and their families.
