JI to Launch Nationwide Movement Against IPP and LNG Agreements, Says Hafiz Naeemur Rehman

Hafiz Naeemur Rehman, chief of Jamaat-e-Islami, has announced a nationwide mobilisation campaign against agreements with Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and liquefied natural gas (LNG) suppliers, alleging financial irregularities and public burden.

Speaking at a training camp in Peshawar, he said the party aims to raise public awareness and seek recovery of what he described as billions of rupees lost through these agreements. He claimed that such deals have disproportionately benefited a small group while increasing electricity costs for the public.

⚡ Energy Crisis and Loadshedding

Hafiz Naeem pointed out that Pakistan’s electricity generation capacity stands at around 49,000 megawatts, while actual demand remains significantly lower. Despite this, he criticised ongoing loadshedding, calling it a failure of governance and energy management.

🎓 Education and Governance Issues

The JI leader also highlighted challenges in the education sector, stating that millions of children remain out of school across provinces. He criticised the outsourcing of public schools, arguing that it negatively affects both students and teachers.

He further called for structural reforms, emphasising the need to empower local governments instead of concentrating authority within bureaucratic systems.

🌍 Foreign Policy Criticism

On international affairs, he expressed strong criticism of United States policies and called for a more independent and dignified foreign policy for Pakistan. While supporting diplomatic efforts and negotiations globally, he stressed that national interests should remain the top priority.

📢 Political Strategy and Membership Drive

As part of its political strategy, Jamaat-e-Islami plans to mobilise citizens across the country and expand its support base. The party has already announced a nationwide membership campaign from April 25 to May 15, aiming to bring millions into its fold.

The announcement signals a more aggressive political stance by Jamaat-e-Islami, focusing on economic reforms, governance changes, and public mobilisation around key national issues.
