The Karachi Chehlum traffic plan has been announced by the Karachi Traffic Police ahead of the central Chehlum procession, with authorities advising commuters to avoid major roads and follow designated alternative routes throughout the day.
According to the official traffic advisory, the main Chehlum procession will begin from Nishtar Park at 9:00am and follow its traditional route through the city. To facilitate the procession and ensure public safety, M.A. Jinnah Road will remain closed to regular traffic until the event concludes.
Traffic police have implemented several diversion plans to reduce congestion in different parts of Karachi.
Vehicles travelling from Saddar towards Tower will be diverted through Preedy Street and I.I. Chundrigar Road, while motorists coming from Shahrah-e-Quaideen will be redirected via Kashmir Road and People’s Chowrangi.
Traffic from Korangi, Landhi and the National Highway will be routed through Rashid Minhas Road and the Super Highway to avoid the procession route.
Commuters travelling from Nazimabad have been advised to use Lasbela, Garden and Nishtar Road, while traffic from Liaquatabad will be diverted from Lasbela Chowk towards Nazimabad No. 10.
Motorists coming from Hassan Square and Shahrah-e-Faisal should follow alternate routes through Society Light Signal, Teen Hatti and Sher Shah Suri Road. Drivers travelling on Jamshed Road towards Guru Mandir have been advised to use Bahadur Yar Jang Road or Soldier Bazaar Road instead.
The traffic police also announced that heavy vehicles will not be permitted to enter Karachi from 10:00am until the conclusion of the procession. Parking along the procession route has also been prohibited, and illegally parked vehicles will be removed to maintain smooth traffic flow and security.
Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and the martyrs of Karbala will be observed across Pakistan with mourning processions and religious gatherings. Authorities have implemented enhanced security and traffic management measures to facilitate participants and minimise inconvenience for commuters.
Citizens are advised to plan their journeys in advance, use the recommended diversion routes and cooperate with traffic police to avoid unnecessary delays during the religious observance.
