Work has officially begun to restore train services in multiple districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa following federal approval, marking a significant step toward improving transport infrastructure in the region.
According to officials, Pakistan Railways has initiated practical steps to revive railway connectivity in five key districts, including Peshawar, Nowshera, Mardan, Charsadda and Kohat. The project will be implemented in phases to ensure smooth execution.
In the first phase, authorities will focus on restoring a 62-kilometre railway track connecting Peshawar, Nowshera and Jahangira. This section is considered a crucial starting point for reviving rail operations in the province.
The second phase includes the development of a 65-kilometre railway line linking Nowshera, Mardan and Dargai. Additional restoration work will cover a 27-kilometre stretch between Mardan and Charsadda, as well as an 18-kilometre section from Peshawar to Jamrud.
Furthermore, a 60-kilometre Kohat-Jand railway segment is planned for future upgradation as part of the broader railway revival initiative.
Officials stated that technical teams are being finalised and legal procedures are underway to ensure proper implementation. Anti-encroachment operations have also started to clear obstacles along railway tracks.
The restoration of train services is expected to provide affordable, safe and efficient travel options for passengers. It will also play a vital role in boosting trade and commercial activity across the province, while contributing to increased revenue for Pakistan Railways.
This project represents a major step toward reconnecting key مناطق of KP and strengthening the region’s transportation network.
