Pakistan Raises High-Speed Diesel Price by Rs2.29 Per Litre, Keeps Petrol Unchanged

The federal government has increased the price of high-speed diesel by Rs2.29 per litre while keeping petrol prices unchanged for the next three days, from October 31 to November 2.

Under the latest petroleum price revision, petrol will continue to sell at Rs377.91 per litre, while high-speed diesel will cost Rs402.96 per litre. The increase follows another diesel price hike of 85 paisa per litre announced just a day earlier, which pushed its price above Rs400.

Pakistan introduced a daily petroleum pricing mechanism in July, replacing the previous weekly system. The change was made amid fluctuations in international oil markets and uncertainty surrounding global fuel supplies.

Alongside the price adjustments, the government has announced targeted fuel relief for lower-income consumers. The subsidy programme covers eligible motorcycle and three-wheeler users, who can receive Rs100 per litre in relief on up to 20 litres of fuel each month.

Owners of cars with engine capacities of up to 800cc are also eligible for the subsidy on up to 30 litres of fuel per month. The scheme is intended to provide targeted assistance to consumers who are more affected by fuel costs.

The government has also reintroduced fuel conservation measures, including reduced operating hours for markets, shopping centres and other commercial establishments.

International petroleum prices have remained volatile amid tensions in the Middle East, disruptions to important shipping routes and uncertainty over global supplies. Since Pakistan imports most of its petroleum requirements, changes in international crude oil prices and freight costs can directly affect domestic fuel rates.
