Pakistan lit up on its 79th Independence Day as spectacular celebrations, fireworks and patriotic events were held across major cities. Citizens across the country came together to celebrate the national day with enthusiasm, displaying flags and decorating streets, homes, markets and public buildings in Pakistan’s traditional green and white colours.
A major highlight of the celebrations took place in Islamabad with the inauguration of the newly built Victory Monument. President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir attended the ceremony, alongside service chiefs, federal ministers and foreign diplomats. The national flag was also hoisted during the event.
Across the country, patriotic songs echoed through communities as citizens participated in celebrations and decorated their surroundings with colourful lights and national flags.
Karachi also witnessed a festive atmosphere, with residents decorating neighbourhoods and public spaces. The special Azadi Safari train travelled from Karachi to Chhor as part of the Independence Day celebrations.
In Lahore, colourful decorations and public festivities brought the city to life, while Islamabad was illuminated by spectacular displays. Residents of Peshawar, Quetta and Multan also marked the occasion with patriotic celebrations.
The Punjab government organised a special Independence Day ceremony featuring performances by renowned singers, combining cultural entertainment with national celebrations.
From dazzling fireworks and illuminated landmarks to patriotic songs, flag displays and public gatherings, the nationwide celebrations highlighted a strong sense of national pride, unity and love for Pakistan as the country marked 79 years of independence.
