ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced a nationwide initiative to introduce advanced information technology (IT) courses as part of its broader strategy to strengthen Pakistan’s digital economy and prepare young people with internationally competitive digital skills.
The decision was announced during a high-level meeting chaired by Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja, attended by heads of IT training institutions from across the country. During the meeting, participants agreed on a national roadmap aimed at expanding access to quality IT education, improving workforce development, and accelerating Pakistan’s digital transformation.
The minister directed all provinces to begin offering advanced IT courses and internationally recognized certification programs without delay. The initiative is designed to help students, graduates, and professionals gain practical expertise in modern technologies while improving their competitiveness in international job markets and the rapidly expanding freelancing sector.
Shaza Fatima emphasized that developing a highly skilled digital workforce remains one of the government’s key priorities. She said training programs must align with global industry standards and evolving market requirements to ensure Pakistani youth are equipped with the knowledge and technical expertise required by leading technology companies around the world.
The government believes that expanding access to advanced IT education will create new employment opportunities, strengthen Pakistan’s software exports, and contribute significantly to the country’s long-term economic growth. Officials also expect the initiative to encourage innovation, entrepreneurship, and investment in the technology sector.
The meeting also focused on improving coordination among public and private IT training institutions to ensure consistent delivery of high-quality education across the country. Participants discussed ways to modernize training curricula, introduce practical learning opportunities, and enhance collaboration between educational institutions and the technology industry.
To monitor implementation, the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has instructed all participating institutions to submit weekly performance reports. These reports will help the ministry evaluate progress, identify challenges, and ensure training programs remain aligned with national objectives.
Pakistan has increasingly prioritized digital transformation through investments in technology education, freelancing, software development, and innovation. Government officials believe strengthening digital skills will improve employment prospects for young people while supporting the country’s ambition to become a competitive player in the global digital economy.
