Pakistan observed Kashmir Exploitation Day on August 5, with political leaders, government officials, and public representatives reaffirming the country’s continued support for the people of Indian-administered Kashmir. The day is observed annually to mark the constitutional changes introduced by India on August 5, 2019, which Pakistan maintains were contrary to international law and United Nations Security Council resolutions.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering moral, political, and diplomatic support for the Kashmiri people and their right to self-determination. He stated that the constitutional measures introduced by India in 2019 were unilateral and called for the restoration of the region’s previous status in accordance with international commitments.
The Foreign Office also reaffirmed Pakistan’s position, stating that Kashmir Exploitation Day serves as a reminder of the events of August 5, 2019, while honoring the resilience and sacrifices of the Kashmiri people. Officials emphasized that Pakistan will continue raising the issue at regional and international forums.
Across the country, political leaders expressed solidarity with Kashmiris. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz urged the United Nations and international human rights organizations to play a more active role in addressing the humanitarian situation in the region. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah described India’s constitutional actions as inconsistent with United Nations Security Council resolutions and called on the international community to safeguard human rights.
Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi, Federal Minister Amir Muqam, PPP leader Sherry Rehman, Jamaat-e-Islami chief Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, and other political leaders also issued statements emphasizing solidarity with the people of Kashmir and calling for a peaceful resolution of the dispute in line with United Nations resolutions.
Solidarity rallies, seminars, and awareness events were held in several cities, where participants reiterated support for the Kashmiri people and highlighted the importance of resolving the longstanding dispute through peaceful dialogue and international engagement.
Pakistan continues to observe Kashmir Exploitation Day every year to draw international attention to its position on the developments of August 5, 2019, while reaffirming support for the people of Kashmir through diplomatic and political channels.
