Pakistan Railways has officially launched an upgraded Awam Express train service operating between Peshawar and Karachi in an effort to improve passenger comfort and travel facilities on one of the country’s major railway routes.
The inauguration ceremony was held at Peshawar Cantt Railway Station, where Railways Secretary Syed Mazhar Ali Shah formally inaugurated the upgraded train service.
According to Pakistan Railways officials, the upgraded Awam Express includes eight modern air-conditioned coaches along with improved seating arrangements and enhanced passenger facilities aimed at providing a more comfortable travel experience.
The railway authorities stated that the train has the capacity to accommodate approximately 1,234 passengers during each journey between Peshawar and Karachi.
Officials added that the first upgraded Awam Express departed from Peshawar for Karachi at 8:30am following the inauguration ceremony.
Pakistan Railways has been working on improving railway infrastructure, upgrading train services and modernising passenger facilities across the country to encourage safer, more comfortable and efficient travel for commuters.
The launch of the upgraded Awam Express is expected to benefit thousands of passengers travelling between northern and southern Pakistan, especially during busy travel seasons and holidays.
Passengers have welcomed the addition of air-conditioned coaches and improved onboard facilities, saying such upgrades can help make long-distance train travel more convenient and comfortable.
The initiative is part of broader efforts by Pakistan Railways to modernize transportation services and improve operational standards across the national railway network.
