Pakistani-American Candidates Contest State Legislative Elections Across Six US States

Pakistani-American candidates are taking part in state legislative races across six US states as voters prepare for the November 3, 2026 midterm elections. The candidates are contesting seats in Connecticut, Texas, Georgia, Pennsylvania, Nevada and Florida, with some seeking re-election to positions they currently hold.

In Connecticut, Maryam Khan and Saud Anwar are running for seats in the State Senate. Texas also has two Pakistani-American candidates seeking another term in the State House of Representatives: Salman Bhojani, contesting District 92, and Suleman Lalani, running in District 76.

Farooq Mughal is contesting a state legislative seat in Georgia, while Tariq Khan is running for office in Pennsylvania. In Nevada, Hanadi Nadeem is seeking election to the State Assembly.

In Florida, Imtiaz Mohammad is participating in the election as a Republican candidate. The candidates are competing for positions at the state level, where elected lawmakers help shape legislation, approve budgets and influence policies within their respective states.

Their participation reflects the involvement of Pakistani-Americans in electoral politics and public representation across different parts of the United States. Several other Muslim-American candidates are also seeking public office in various states.

The November 3 contests form part of the wider US midterm elections, which include races for both state and federal positions. State legislative elections are separate from congressional contests for seats in the US House of Representatives and the US Senate.
