ISLAMABAD: The federal government has announced financial compensation of Rs5 million for each family of the newborn babies who died in the tragic fire at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad.
The government expressed deep sorrow over the deaths and extended condolences to the bereaved families. In an official statement, it said it shared the grief and pain of the families during the difficult period following the tragedy.
The government acknowledged that no financial assistance could compensate for the loss of precious lives. However, it said the Rs5 million compensation was intended to provide immediate support and help ease the financial difficulties faced by the affected families.
The PIMS fire resulted in the deaths of newborn babies and triggered widespread grief and concern across the country. The incident also raised serious questions about fire safety arrangements, emergency preparedness and the response at the public-sector hospital.
Authorities are continuing efforts to determine the circumstances surrounding the tragedy and establish responsibility where necessary.
The federal government assured the bereaved families that every possible support and assistance would be provided. It also said officials would remain in contact with the families and provide necessary assistance during the aftermath of the incident.
