PM Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Munir Join High-Level US-Iran Peace Talks in Switzerland

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir joined senior leaders from the United States, Iran, and Qatar in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, to participate in high-level peace talks aimed at advancing the implementation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The diplomatic meeting is being viewed as a major step toward promoting regional stability and strengthening international peace efforts.

Before the technical-level negotiations began, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, US Vice President JD Vance, and Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani addressed the media, expressing optimism that continued diplomatic engagement would pave the way for lasting peace and prosperity. The leaders emphasized the importance of dialogue and cooperation in resolving regional conflicts.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif stated that the discussions could lead to a historic agreement that would promote peace, progress, and economic prosperity across the region. He thanked US President Donald Trump for his leadership in supporting the peace initiative and acknowledged the contributions of Vice President JD Vance, the Qatari leadership, and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir in bringing the parties together for negotiations.

Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir attended the talks alongside the Prime Minister and held bilateral discussions with US Vice President JD Vance. During his remarks, Vance praised both Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Munir for their diplomatic leadership, describing their efforts as instrumental in making the negotiations possible. He highlighted Pakistan’s constructive role in facilitating dialogue between the United States and Iran.

The Qatari Prime Minister also appreciated Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement, calling the talks an important opportunity to build trust and encourage peaceful cooperation among regional stakeholders. He expressed confidence that the negotiations would help establish a stronger framework for long-term stability in the Middle East.

The peace talks follow the recent signing of a US-Iran peace agreement, brokered with Pakistan’s support, which established a 60-day roadmap for further negotiations. The agreement is expected to focus on confidence-building measures, regional security, and mechanisms to reduce tensions through diplomatic channels.

On the sidelines of the conference, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also held meetings with senior officials from the United States, Iran, Qatar, and Switzerland to strengthen bilateral relations and reaffirm Pakistan’s commitment to peaceful dialogue and international cooperation.

The Bürgenstock talks mark another significant milestone in Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts to promote regional peace, encourage constructive engagement, and support sustainable political solutions through dialogue rather than conflict.
