Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is preparing a major reshuffle of the federal cabinet, with plans to induct young and energetic lawmakers as part of efforts to improve the government’s overall performance and strengthen governance.
According to informed sources, the prime minister has completed consultations on the proposed changes, which are expected to introduce new faces into the cabinet while rewarding individuals who have demonstrated commitment, efficiency and strong performance.
The new appointments are likely to be made as Ministers of State, with the objective of injecting fresh energy into the government and improving the implementation of key national policies.
Sources said the prime minister believes the federal cabinet requires renewed momentum to address pressing economic and administrative challenges. The planned reshuffle is expected to place greater emphasis on accountability, performance and measurable results across ministries.
During recent review meetings, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of several federal ministries. Officials familiar with the discussions said the prime minister raised concerns that some departments had failed to achieve expected progress despite the government’s policy initiatives.
Among the issues highlighted was Pakistan’s export performance. The prime minister reportedly expressed disappointment over the slower-than-expected growth in exports, particularly in sectors considered capable of driving economic expansion.
The Ministry of Water Resources also came under scrutiny, with the prime minister reportedly expressing concerns over its overall performance and implementation of projects.
