The Punjab government has approved the introduction of artificial intelligence education in schools from Class 1 to Class 12 as part of a new curriculum aimed at preparing students for an increasingly digital world.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif approved the curriculum changes while chairing a meeting in Lahore. She directed education officials to introduce AI-related learning at different stages of schooling and ordered the establishment of AI laboratories to provide students with practical exposure to emerging technologies.
The initiative is intended to strengthen students’ understanding of modern technology while improving digital literacy across different levels of education. By introducing AI concepts from an early stage, the Punjab government aims to help students develop skills that can be useful in their future academic and professional careers.
During the meeting, Maryam Nawaz also stressed the importance of strengthening primary education. She directed officials to focus on basic learning skills and said strong educational foundations during the early years are important for students’ academic development in later stages.
Officials briefed the meeting about the Punjab Education Curriculum, Training and Assessment Authority and discussed measures related to curriculum development, teacher training and assessment standards.
