Punjab Assembly Passes Key Resolutions on Anti-Terror Efforts, Population Growth and Smog

The Punjab Assembly has unanimously adopted a series of important resolutions addressing national security, population growth, and environmental challenges during its latest session in Lahore.

The session began with a tribute to Operation Bunyan-un-Marsoos, marking one year since its completion. Lawmakers praised the efforts of Pakistan’s armed forces, security institutions, and national leadership in combating terrorism. The resolution emphasized that continued coordination and long-term strategies are essential to eliminate militancy and ensure internal stability, reflecting the national resolve that strengthened after the Army Public School tragedy.

A second resolution focused on the growing concern of rapid population increase in Pakistan. Members of the assembly warned that unchecked population growth is placing immense pressure on critical sectors such as education, healthcare, housing, and employment. The House called for a comprehensive national strategy, including expansion of family planning services, increased public awareness, and investment in women’s education and economic empowerment. Lawmakers also suggested the use of modern technology and proposed forming a special committee to ensure proper implementation.

Environmental issues were also a major focus, with the assembly supporting government initiatives to combat smog and pollution. The resolution acknowledged steps taken to regulate industrial emissions, control vehicular pollution, and reduce crop burning, all aimed at improving air quality and public health across Punjab.

In addition, the House passed a resolution in support of cyclist Muattar Manzoor for her performance in the Punjab Pink Games 2026, urging authorities to provide her with better training facilities and institutional backing to promote sports talent.

The session, chaired by Deputy Speaker Zaheer Iqbal Channar, began after a delay and witnessed tense exchanges during the question hour. Lawmakers criticized the submission of repetitive questions, calling it a misuse of parliamentary time, while Provincial Law Minister Rana Iqbal urged stricter procedural discipline.

Overall, the proceedings highlighted Punjab Assembly’s focus on security, sustainable development, and governance reforms amid ongoing national challenges.
