ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima has welcomed the establishment of Google’s local office in Pakistan, describing it as an important development for the country’s digital transformation.
Fatima said Google’s presence in Pakistan reflects growing international confidence in the country’s digital economy and highlights the potential of Pakistan’s technology sector.
The minister said the establishment of Google’s local office is aligned with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s “Digital Nation Pakistan” vision and could strengthen cooperation between the government and the global technology industry.
According to Fatima, the government is focused on connecting Pakistani talent with international opportunities and building a stronger digital ecosystem. She highlighted the potential of technology to create new opportunities for young people and women while helping Pakistani startups expand into international markets.
The minister said the government would continue working with Google to improve digital skills across Pakistan. Cooperation in areas including artificial intelligence, cloud technology and education is also expected to contribute to the country’s digital development.
Fatima stressed the importance of technology-based education and skills training, saying greater access to modern digital tools could help Pakistani students and professionals develop skills needed in the global economy.
She also highlighted Pakistan’s potential to expand technology-related exports and said the government would encourage the export of locally manufactured Chromebooks to other countries in the region.
The opening of Google’s local office is being viewed as an opportunity to strengthen Pakistan’s links with the global technology sector and accelerate digital inclusion, skills development and innovation.
