RAWALPINDI: Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir on Saturday visited Pakistan Ordnance Factories (POF) Wah, where he reviewed the organisation’s defence production capabilities, export potential and efforts to strengthen Pakistan’s indigenous defence industry.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the army chief received a detailed briefing on POF’s activities and its contribution to Pakistan’s defence capabilities through local manufacturing and technological development.
Officials briefed Field Marshal Asim Munir on the production and development of various types of military equipment, as well as initiatives aimed at expanding indigenous manufacturing capacity and reducing reliance on external sources.
During the visit, he also witnessed trials and testing of weapons and ammunition manufactured locally. The demonstrations provided an overview of the capabilities being developed within Pakistan’s defence production sector.
A key part of the briefing focused on efforts to transform POF into a more commercially oriented and corporate institution. The field marshal was informed about progress on restructuring, expanding local manufacturing and upgrading existing production facilities.
According to ISPR, two new industrial plants are currently being installed at POF, with production expected to begin by the end of the current year. The facilities are expected to increase the organisation’s overall manufacturing capacity.
The visit also highlighted the potential for expanding exports of Pakistani defence products. Greater production capacity and competitive locally manufactured equipment could help Pakistan strengthen its presence in international defence markets.
The Pakistan Army reiterated its commitment to self-reliance, indigenous production and technological innovation in the defence sector.
POF Wah remains one of Pakistan’s major defence production centres and has historically supplied military equipment and ammunition to the armed forces. The latest modernisation and restructuring initiatives are aimed at enhancing its production capabilities and meeting evolving defence requirements.
