A reported quadcopter explosion in Bannu left eight people injured, including women, after the device crashed near a residential area late Friday night.
According to police officials, the drone entered the locality from an unknown direction and exploded shortly after hitting the ground, causing panic among residents. Locals rushed to the scene and provided initial assistance before shifting the injured to District Headquarters Hospital Bannu for medical treatment.
Hospital authorities confirmed that all injured individuals are receiving care, with some reported to be in critical condition.
Security agencies responded swiftly and have launched a detailed investigation into the incident. Officials stated that multiple aspects are being examined, including the origin of the quadcopter, the nature of the explosion, and any possible motives behind the attack.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about security in the region, as Bannu has witnessed a rise in violent incidents in recent months. Previous attacks in the district have targeted police personnel and local jirga members, prompting ongoing operations by security forces to counter militant activity.
This explosion also follows a recent suspected drone-related incident in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where a cross-border quadcopter reportedly injured security personnel in Mohmand district.
Residents expressed serious concern over the latest blast and urged authorities to conduct a transparent inquiry, hold those responsible accountable, and take effective measures to ensure civilian safety.
Officials have assured that the investigation is ongoing and that further details will be shared once more information becomes available.
