A large-scale cattle market has been established at Bhata Ground ahead of Eidul Azha, drawing animals from across Pakistan and Azad Kashmir. Spread over 32 acres, the market has quickly become a major hub for sacrificial animal trading in the twin cities.
Organised by local authorities, the market is considered one of the largest in the country after Karachi. Officials have ensured the availability of essential facilities, including electricity, water, animal feed, and sanitation services to provide a comfortable environment for both traders and buyers.
Livestock from all four provinces, including bulls, cows, buffaloes, goats, sheep, and camels, are arriving daily. The Livestock Department Pakistan has set up medical camps to examine animals and ensure their health before sale, adding a layer of safety for buyers.
Large tents have been installed to accommodate animals, with traders showcasing healthy and well-maintained livestock to attract customers. The market is expected to remain a key center of activity as Eidul Azha approaches, with increasing footfall from buyers.
However, despite the availability of a wide range of animals, rising prices remain a major concern. Many buyers have expressed difficulty in affording sacrificial animals, citing high costs not only for the animals themselves but also for additional expenses such as feed, transport, and facility charges.
While traders continue to bring in livestock and maintain that facilities are adequate, affordability challenges persist for many families wishing to fulfil the Sunnah of Prophet Ibrahim.
Overall, the Bhata Ground cattle market reflects both the scale of Eidul Azha preparations in Pakistan and the economic pressures faced by buyers, making it a focal point of activity in the twin cities during the festive season.
