Swiss FM Ignazio Cassis Meets PM Shehbaz Sharif in Bürgenstock to Advance Iran–US Peace Talks

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Swiss Vice President and Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis in Bürgenstock, Switzerland, during the ongoing technical-level negotiations between Iran and the United States. The meeting highlighted Pakistan’s growing diplomatic role in promoting regional peace and supporting the implementation of the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

According to the Prime Minister’s Office, Ignazio Cassis appreciated Pakistan’s mediation efforts, which helped facilitate dialogue between Iran and the United States. He also expressed Switzerland’s willingness to support the follow-up process and contribute to the successful implementation of the Islamabad MoU aimed at promoting regional peace, stability, and international cooperation.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked the Swiss government for its continued support and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to peaceful dialogue and diplomacy. He emphasized that the successful implementation of the Islamabad MoU could contribute significantly to regional stability, global peace, and economic prosperity.

During the meeting, both leaders discussed ways to strengthen Pakistan-Switzerland bilateral relations in several important sectors. Prime Minister Shehbaz encouraged greater Swiss investment in Pakistan and invited Swiss companies to expand their business operations in the country. He also highlighted Pakistan’s growing pool of skilled professionals in information technology and cyber security, offering cooperation to help meet Switzerland’s increasing demand in these fields.

The discussions also covered opportunities for collaboration in pharmaceuticals, tourism, climate change, disaster risk reduction, and digital innovation. Both sides agreed that stronger cooperation in these sectors would benefit both countries and further deepen their longstanding diplomatic relationship.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also extended a formal invitation to Vice President Ignazio Cassis to visit Pakistan at a mutually convenient time. Later, the Prime Minister shared details of the meeting on social media, stating that both countries remain committed to strengthening bilateral cooperation while supporting regional peace initiatives.

The meeting took place alongside the technical-level Iran–US negotiations in Switzerland, where Pakistan and Qatar are playing important mediation roles. Pakistan’s active diplomatic engagement reflects its commitment to peaceful conflict resolution and constructive international cooperation.
