Dadu Records 51.5°C As PMD Reports New Temperature High

Dadu recorded a scorching temperature of 51.5 degrees Celsius on Thursday, setting a new maximum temperature record amid an ongoing severe heatwave across Pakistan, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

The department said the recorded temperature in Dadu was approximately 4.5°C above normal seasonal levels, highlighting the intensity of the current heatwave affecting large parts of the country.

According to PMD data, Larkana and Jacobabad were the next hottest locations, with both cities recording temperatures of 50.5°C.

Earlier, the PMD had forecast extremely hot to very hot weather conditions across Pakistan during the Eid-ul-Adha holidays, warning that temperatures in several regions could remain 5°C to 7°C above normal.

The weather department stated that maximum temperatures in many districts were expected to remain 4°C to 6°C above average levels, particularly in parts of Sindh and Balochistan.

Areas expected to face extreme temperatures between 47°C and 50°C include:

  • Sukkur
  • Shikarpur
  • Qambar Shahdadkot
  • Mohenjo-daro
  • Shaheed Benazirabad
  • Tharparkar
  • Hyderabad
  • Umerkot
  • Khairpur
  • Turbat
  • Panjgur

The PMD further stated that hot and dry weather conditions are likely to continue in most parts of the country over the coming days.

Health experts and weather authorities have advised citizens to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight during peak afternoon hours, remain hydrated and take extra care of children, elderly individuals and people with medical conditions.

Authorities also warned that prolonged exposure to extreme heat could increase the risk of dehydration, heat exhaustion and heatstroke.

The ongoing heatwave reflects the growing intensity of extreme weather events affecting South Asia during the summer season.
