Pakistan And China Reaffirm Push To Expand Military Cooperation

Pakistan and China have reaffirmed their commitment to expanding military cooperation and strengthening strategic coordination, according to statements made by the Chinese Defence Ministry during a recent press briefing.

Speaking at a monthly media briefing, Chinese Defence Ministry spokesperson Colonel Jiang Bin said defence ties between the two countries continue to deepen under what he described as an enduring “iron-clad friendship.”

The remarks came following high-level interactions during the official visit of Shehbaz Sharif to China.

According to Jiang, military cooperation between Pakistan and China has achieved significant progress in several key areas, including:

  • Strategic communication
  • Joint military drills and exercises
  • Training programmes
  • Personnel exchanges
  • Defence equipment and technology collaboration

He stated that joint exercises involving the armies, navies and air forces of both countries have become important symbols of bilateral defence cooperation.

Among the major military exercises highlighted by the Chinese official were:

  • Warriors exercises
  • Ocean Guards exercises
  • Eagles exercises

Jiang said Beijing remains ready to work closely with Pakistan under the strategic guidance of both countries’ leaderships to further strengthen military-to-military relations and practical cooperation.

He also stressed that both nations would continue supporting each other on issues related to their core national interests.

The Chinese spokesperson added that the two countries aim to further advance what he described as a “closer China-Pakistan community with a shared future,” while jointly contributing to regional peace, development and global security.

Highlighting the long-standing bilateral relationship, Jiang noted that diplomatic ties between Pakistan and China have now completed 75 years and have continued growing stronger despite changing international conditions.

Referring to the strong public perception of bilateral ties, he said Pakistani citizens often describe the friendship as “higher than the mountains, deeper than the oceans and sweeter than honey,” while Chinese people commonly refer to Pakistan as “Iron Pakistan.”

Pakistan and China maintain close strategic cooperation across defence, economic and diplomatic sectors, with both countries frequently emphasizing their long-term partnership and regional collaboration.
