Five Injured as Gunmen Attack ANP Leader Malik Mumtaz Khan’s House in Swat

Five people were injured after unidentified gunmen attacked the residence of Awami National Party (ANP) Swat district vice-president Malik Mumtaz Khan in the Shakardara area of Swat, police confirmed.

According to officials at Matta Police Station, the attackers opened fire on the house, injuring several people. As the wounded were being transported to a hospital, the assailants also targeted the ambulance carrying the victims, leaving a rescue worker injured in the second attack.

Security forces quickly reached the area and secured the scene while police launched an investigation to identify and arrest those responsible for the attack. Authorities stated that the motive behind the incident has not yet been determined, and further investigations are ongoing.

The attack has raised fresh concerns about security in the region, particularly given the history of violence faced by Malik Mumtaz Khan’s family. According to ANP sources, seven members of the family have lost their lives in separate militant-related incidents over the years.

No group had claimed responsibility for the latest attack at the time of reporting. Police are collecting evidence and examining all possible angles to determine the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

The incident highlights the continuing security challenges in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where political leaders and civilians have previously been targeted in acts of violence. Authorities have assured that those responsible will be brought to justice following a thorough investigation.
