Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Pakistan Secretary General Ameer-ul-Azeem has passed away after a prolonged illness, leaving behind a legacy of political and organizational service spanning several decades.
According to a Jamaat-e-Islami spokesperson, Ameer-ul-Azeem had been battling cancer for a long time. His funeral prayers will be offered at 5:00 pm at Mansoora, Lahore.
Born in Lahore in 1958, Ameer-ul-Azeem completed his education at Islamia institutions before earning a BSc in Physics and Double Mathematics and later an MBA from the University of the Punjab. He became actively involved in Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba (IJT) during his student years and later served as the elected president of the Punjab University Students’ Union.
During General Zia-ul-Haq’s era, he led a movement demanding the restoration of student unions and was imprisoned for his activism. While in prison, he was elected as the head of Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba.
Throughout his political career, Ameer-ul-Azeem held several key positions within Jamaat-e-Islami, including Central Secretary for Information, Secretary General of the Lahore chapter, and Ameer of Lahore. In 2019, he was appointed Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan by then party chief Siraj-ul-Haq after consultation with the party’s Central Shura.
His passing marks the end of a distinguished career dedicated to political, educational, and organizational leadership within Jamaat-e-Islami.
