The Lahore district administration has sealed a private water park following the tragic death of a nine-year-old girl in an accident involving the facility’s drainage system.
The incident took place at a private water park in Batapur, where the child had visited with her family. According to preliminary investigations, the swimming pool was being drained while visitors, including children, were still inside the water.
Officials believe the powerful suction generated by the drainage pump pulled the girl toward an uncovered drainage pipe, trapping her inside. Witnesses immediately alerted park staff and rescue teams after the child disappeared underwater.
Emergency responders searched the pool and surrounding area before locating the girl inside the drainage pipe approximately 40 to 50 minutes later. She was rushed for medical treatment but was pronounced dead by doctors.
Following the incident, the district administration ordered the immediate closure of the water park. Officials stated that the facility would remain sealed until the completion of the investigation. Authorities also alleged that the park had been operating without meeting all required safety and fitness standards.
The victim’s mother later filed a police complaint, accusing the park management of criminal negligence. She alleged that proper safety measures could have prevented the tragedy.
Based on the complaint, police registered a criminal case and arrested the park manager, security supervisor, and CCTV supervisor. Investigators are examining whether the management violated safety protocols by draining the pool while visitors were still swimming and why the drainage opening was reportedly left uncovered.
Police said a comprehensive investigation is underway to determine whether negligence, poor maintenance or failure to follow mandatory safety procedures caused the fatal accident. Authorities have pledged strict legal action against anyone found responsible.
