NCCIA Arrests 11 In Punjab Over Alleged Anti-State Online Campaign

The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has arrested 11 individuals from various cities of Punjab over allegations of spreading anti-state material online and inciting unrest through social media platforms.

According to the agency’s provincial spokesperson, the suspects had been under surveillance for allegedly sharing provocative content and running online campaigns targeting state institutions, particularly the military, through digital platforms.

The NCCIA said coordinated raids were carried out in multiple cities across Punjab on Thursday as part of the operation.

According to officials:

  • Two suspects were arrested in Lahore
  • Three individuals were detained in Faisalabad
  • Four suspects were arrested in Multan
  • One arrest was made in Gujranwala

The agency stated that digital evidence, social media activity and online records are being collected to investigate possible networks and communication links connected to the suspects.

Officials confirmed that cases have been registered under various sections of the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act 2016 (PECA).

NCCIA Punjab Director Muhammad Ali Waseem said the agency would continue strict action against individuals accused of spreading anti-state propaganda or creating panic and instability through online activity.

He added that the crackdown against such activities would continue in accordance with the law and that no leniency would be shown in cases involving attempts to destabilize public order through digital platforms.

Earlier this month, the NCCIA had also announced the arrest of 13 alleged anti-state social media activists from different cities of Punjab. At that time, officials claimed the suspects were involved in coordinated online campaigns against state institutions, including the army and government officials.

The agency had further alleged that some online content targeted Gulf countries as well.

The recent arrests reflect ongoing efforts by Pakistani authorities to monitor digital platforms and enforce cybercrime laws against alleged unlawful online activities.
