Pakistan Strikes Landmark Offshore Gas Find in Sindh

Pakistan has recorded a significant breakthrough in hydrocarbon exploration after Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) announced a major gas discovery from its Dolphin exploration well in the company-operated Sarani Block in Sujawal district, Sindh.

According to PPL, the discovery represents the first hydrocarbon find from the Jurassic-age Chiltan Formation in the Lower Indus Basin, marking an important development for Pakistan’s exploration sector.

The company said the discovery confirms the presence of an active petroleum system in the area. The finding could also create new opportunities for further exploration in the onshore swamp region and potentially prospective shallow marine extensions.

The discovery is expected to generate greater interest in Pakistan’s hydrocarbon potential, particularly in geological formations and areas that have not previously produced commercial discoveries.

Further exploration and technical evaluation will be important to determine the scale of the resource and its potential contribution to Pakistan’s domestic energy supply.

The latest development comes as Pakistan continues efforts to increase local oil and gas production, reduce dependence on imported energy and explore new hydrocarbon resources.
