Pakistan-Mediated Iran-US Talks Show Major Breakthrough Signs

Pakistan-mediated negotiations between Iran and the United States have reportedly shown major breakthrough signs as diplomatic efforts continue to de-escalate tensions and move toward a possible agreement after months of conflict.

According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the latest round of negotiations has resulted in “encouraging progress” toward a framework understanding between Iran and the United States.

The development came after a high-level diplomatic visit to Tehran by Asim Munir, who held important meetings with senior Iranian leadership as part of Pakistan’s mediation efforts aimed at restoring regional stability.

During his visit, Field Marshal Asim Munir met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni.

According to ISPR, the discussions focused on accelerating diplomatic consultations to support peace efforts, reduce regional tensions and move toward a final agreement between Tehran and Washington.

Iranian officials also confirmed that discussions are currently focused on finalising a memorandum of understanding (MoU) that could serve as the foundation for broader negotiations in the coming weeks.

Sources involved in the talks stated that the proposed framework could help formally end hostilities and reopen diplomatic channels after nearly three months of conflict in the Middle East.

Reports suggest that Pakistani, Iranian and Qatari delegations held intensive consultations in Tehran to bridge differences on sensitive matters, including Iran’s nuclear programme, maritime security and the Strait of Hormuz.

According to diplomatic sources, the draft framework reportedly includes:

  • Immediate cessation of hostilities
  • Reopening of the Strait of Hormuz
  • Resumption of broader nuclear negotiations within 30 days
  • Continued diplomatic engagement through mediators

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei stated that the parties are currently in the final stages of drafting a framework agreement and that details would continue to be negotiated within a 30 to 60-day period before a final settlement is reached.

Meanwhile, Donald Trump said the United States is reviewing the latest Iranian proposal and hinted that a decision regarding future negotiations could come within days.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also confirmed that “measurable progress” had been made in the talks, although he warned that military action remains possible if diplomacy fails.

Pakistan has emerged as a key diplomatic mediator during the ongoing Middle East crisis, helping facilitate communication between Iran and the United States after tensions escalated following military confrontations earlier this year.

Officials say the coming days could prove critical in determining whether both sides move toward a temporary agreement and eventually a broader peace settlement.
