Pakistan Reaffirms Unwavering Support for Saudi Arabia After Riyadh Airport Attack

Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) has condemned a reported wave of Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia, reaffirming Islamabad’s commitment to the kingdom’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, security and stability under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement. The statement followed an attack on Riyadh’s international airport that Saudi authorities and reports said caused significant casualties and damage.
In a statement shared on X, the Foreign Office described the targeting of a civilian airport as a violation of international law and a threat to regional peace and security. It expressed condolences to the families of those killed and wished those injured a speedy recovery.
The FO also called on Yemen’s Houthi movement to stop attacks against civilian populations and critical infrastructure. It urged the international community to take a firm position against such incidents and reiterated Pakistan’s solidarity with Saudi Arabia and its right to self-defence against threats and aggression.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif separately condemned the reported attack, saying that strikes on civilian and critical infrastructure were unacceptable and posed a serious threat to regional stability. He reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to Saudi Arabia’s security under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement and the longstanding relationship between the two countries.
The latest statements come amid continued security concerns linked to the Yemen conflict. Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye agreed at an emergency meeting on October 5 to facilitate the rapid deployment of military forces and capabilities under their defence arrangement. Pakistani officials have described the alliance as defensive and intended to strengthen collective deterrence, while Pakistan continues to express support for Saudi security.
