PTA Warns WhatsApp Accounts Could Be Blocked Over Unregistered SIMs

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has issued an important advisory for WhatsApp users across Pakistan, warning that accounts linked to inactive or unregistered SIM cards may become inaccessible if users fail to update their account details. According to the regulator, users must ensure that their WhatsApp accounts remain connected to active and properly registered SIM cards to avoid any interruption in service.

PTA emphasized that maintaining a secure digital identity is the responsibility of every mobile user. The authority urged citizens to verify their SIM registration status and update any outdated information linked to their mobile numbers. The advisory specifically targets users whose WhatsApp accounts are connected to SIMs that are either inactive or not registered according to official telecom regulations.

In addition to the WhatsApp advisory, PTA has also announced a nationwide restriction on SIM card sales during late-night hours. Under the new regulation, the sale of SIM cards will remain banned from midnight until 6am across Pakistan. The authority stated that the decision aims to prevent the illegal issuance of SIMs and strengthen national digital security systems.

The latest measures are part of PTA’s broader efforts to improve telecom security, reduce misuse of mobile connections, and ensure that digital communication platforms remain linked to verified users only. Citizens have been advised to immediately check their SIM registration status to continue uninterrupted access to WhatsApp and other digital services.
