An unusual development emerged during the hearing of cases related to a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest in Islamabad after police presented a man without both arms before the court over allegations of stone-pelting and wielding sticks during the demonstration.
The accused, identified as Altaf Ullah, was arrested and booked at Koral Police Station in connection with the August 5 PTI protest held in Islamabad. Police accused him of participating in activities including stone-pelting during the demonstration.
However, the proceedings took an unexpected turn when his lawyer, Sardar Masroor, challenged the allegations before Duty Magistrate Rizwan-ud-Din. The lawyer pointed out that his client had no arms and therefore could not have carried out the alleged acts of throwing stones or wielding sticks.
The court examined Altaf Ullah in the courtroom and confirmed that both of his arms were absent. Following the observation, the court discharged him from the case.
The development attracted attention because of the apparent contradiction between the allegations recorded by police and the physical condition of the accused. The case has also highlighted the importance of verifying allegations and examining available evidence during legal proceedings.
The incident occurred during hearings involving several people arrested in connection with the August 5 PTI protest in Islamabad. The demonstration was held as PTI supporters expressed solidarity with party founder Imran Khan.
The court’s decision means Altaf Ullah was discharged from the particular case presented before the magistrate. The unusual circumstances surrounding his arrest and subsequent release have since drawn significant attention.
