KARACHI: Senior Sindh Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon has approached the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) over what he described as a campaign of false and malicious allegations circulating on social media.
Memon submitted a written complaint to the cybercrime agency on August 9, requesting an investigation into claims that he said were aimed at damaging his reputation and that of his son, Rawal Memon.
The controversy is linked to the ongoing case involving businessman Mir Ali Raza, whose death has attracted considerable attention in Karachi. Social media posts have circulated allegations connecting Sharjeel Memon to a guesthouse in Gulistan-e-Jauhar where Mir Ali Raza was allegedly tortured and killed.
Some posts claimed that the property was owned by the Sindh minister. Memon has rejected the allegations and asked the NCCIA to investigate the source and authenticity of the claims.
In his complaint, the minister described the information circulating online as false, fabricated and malicious. He requested authorities to determine the facts and take action in accordance with the law if any wrongdoing is established.
Memon has also expressed his willingness to cooperate with investigators and provide any information required during the inquiry.
The complaint comes as the Mir Ali Raza case continues to attract public and media attention. Various claims and counterclaims have been circulating on social media, making official verification particularly important.
The NCCIA’s investigation, if pursued, could help establish the origins of the social media allegations and determine whether any laws were violated through the dissemination of allegedly false information.
For now, the allegations circulating online remain disputed, and no independent finding has established the claims against Sharjeel Memon as factual.
