79 medicine, syringe samples declared substandard or counterfeit in Sindh

The Sindh Drug Testing Laboratory has identified 79 samples of medicines, herbal products, and medical syringes as substandard or counterfeit, raising fresh concerns about the quality of healthcare products available across the province.

According to the latest report, more than 2,000 samples collected between January and July 13 were tested for safety and quality. Out of these, 79 failed to meet the required standards.

Among the failed products were 30 samples of auto-disable (AD) syringes, which are designed for single use to prevent the spread of infectious diseases. Health experts warned that the use of fake or low-quality syringes increases the risk of transmitting HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, and other blood-borne infections.

The laboratory has recommended stronger regulatory oversight, regular inspections, and strict legal action against manufacturers and suppliers involved in producing or distributing counterfeit medical products.

Authorities have also advised hospitals, pharmacies, and healthcare providers to purchase medicines and medical equipment only from licensed distributors, while urging the public to seek treatment from reputable healthcare facilities using approved medical products.
