Acting President Yusuf Raza Gilani has approved the transfer of three judges from the Islamabad High Court (IHC) to provincial high courts, following the advice of the prime minister. The decision was formally announced through a notification issued by the Ministry of Law.
According to the notification, the transfers were carried out under Article 200(1) of the Constitution of Pakistan and were based on the recommendation of the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP).
Under the approved changes, Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani has been transferred to the Lahore High Court (LHC), Justice Babar Sattar to the Peshawar High Court (PHC), and Justice Saman Rafat Imtiaz to the Sindh High Court (SHC).
The notification clearly stated that the acting president exercised his authority in approving the transfers on the advice of the prime minister, in line with constitutional provisions.
All three judges were previously serving at the Islamabad High Court before their reassignment to different provincial high courts. The move represents a significant development in Pakistan’s judicial structure and follows the formal recommendation process carried out by the Judicial Commission.
No additional details were provided in the notification beyond the constitutional basis, the names of the judges, and their new postings.
The transfers highlight the functioning of judicial administrative processes under the Constitution and reflect the role of key institutions in managing judicial appointments and placements across the country.
