Nawaz Sharif is set to lead the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) election campaign for the upcoming polls in Azad Jammu and Kashmir after completing the party’s ticket scrutiny process.
According to party insiders, Nawaz Sharif will visit Azad Kashmir in mid-June to actively participate in electioneering efforts and boost the party’s campaign. Senior leadership, including Shehbaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz, are also expected to join the campaign and address public gatherings across different constituencies.
The development comes after Nawaz Sharif chaired a key parliamentary board meeting at the party secretariat in Lahore, where interviews of candidates seeking party tickets were completed. More than 206 aspirants from 45 constituencies appeared before the board during the scrutiny process.
Sources revealed that each candidate was given a brief opportunity to present their case, while board members questioned them on their political standing, loyalty to the party, and support within their constituencies.
The parliamentary board includes senior party figures such as Ishaq Dar, along with several federal ministers and experienced leaders. The final decision regarding ticket allocation will be made by Nawaz Sharif, with official announcements expected within the next 30 days.
During the meeting, Nawaz Sharif expressed strong emotional ties with the people of Kashmir, stating his commitment to personally lead the campaign and secure public support for party candidates.
Party leadership has also indicated that multiple public gatherings will be organised in AJK, where key leaders including Shehbaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz will address voters.
The PML-N remains confident about forming the government in the upcoming elections, citing its current political strength at the federal and provincial levels.
Earlier, a political committee formed under the leadership of Shehbaz Sharif had conducted extensive consultations with potential candidates across AJK and among Kashmiri refugees in Pakistan, completing preliminary groundwork ahead of the final selection phase.
With elections scheduled for July, the party is now entering a crucial stage of campaign planning and candidate finalisation.
