Nine Killed in Separate Honour-Related Incidents in Larkana and Shikarpur

LARKANA – Nine people lost their lives in three separate incidents reported in Sindh’s Larkana and Shikarpur districts, with police linking the killings to so-called honour-related disputes. The incidents have once again drawn attention to the persistent issue of violence carried out in the name of honour and the devastating impact it has on families and communities.

According to police officials, the first incident occurred in Sindh Green Colony, Larkana, where armed attackers targeted a residential house during the night. The victims were reportedly asleep when the attack took place.

Authorities stated that a woman and three of her children were killed during the assault, while two additional family members, including a child, sustained injuries. Police identified the deceased as Zareena, aged 55, Zameer, aged 36, Roshan, aged 28, and Saima.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the attack may have been linked to a long-standing dispute between two Mugheri families. Police believe the conflict was connected to an earlier honour-related killing involving a man named Asghar Mugheri, who was reportedly killed two years ago. Investigators are examining whether the latest attack was carried out as part of an ongoing cycle of retaliation between the families.

In a separate incident within Larkana, a man allegedly shot and killed his daughter and her husband near Atta Turk Tower, located within the jurisdiction of Allahabad Police Station.

Police identified the victims as 30-year-old Firdous and her husband Javed Korkani. According to investigators, the couple had reportedly married without obtaining the approval of the woman’s family. Authorities stated that the suspect, identified as Parehal Unar, later surrendered himself to the police following the incident.

The third incident took place in the Shaheedabad area of Shikarpur district, where a dispute involving two groups from the Bakhrani community turned violent. Police reported that armed clashes resulted in multiple casualties.

According to officials, Agha and Bakhrani died at the scene, while Marvi later succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment at a hospital. Investigators are continuing efforts to determine the exact circumstances that led to the confrontation.

Law enforcement officials confirmed that investigations are ongoing in all three cases. However, at the time of reporting, First Information Reports (FIRs) had not yet been formally registered in any of the incidents.

Human rights advocates have repeatedly expressed concern over honour-related violence in various parts of Pakistan, emphasizing that such acts often result in tragic loss of life and long-lasting trauma for affected families. Legal experts note that Pakistani law treats murder committed under the pretext of honour as a criminal offense subject to prosecution and punishment.

Authorities have urged citizens to resolve disputes through legal channels rather than resorting to violence. Police officials stated that evidence collection, witness statements, and further inquiries are underway to ensure accountability for those involved in the incidents.

The latest cases have once again highlighted the importance of strengthening public awareness, improving legal enforcement, and protecting vulnerable individuals from violence carried out under social or family pressures.

As investigations continue, law enforcement agencies are expected to determine responsibility and proceed with legal action against those found involved in the killings. The incidents serve as a tragic reminder of the need for continued efforts to prevent violence and uphold the rule of law across communities.
