Mobile phone services have started to be suspended in Quetta as authorities implement heightened security measures ahead of the 7th of Muharram. The temporary suspension has been introduced to ensure public safety during Muharram processions and religious gatherings across the city.
According to police officials, the shutdown of mobile services is part of a broader security strategy aimed at maintaining law and order during the sacred month of Muharram. Every year, additional security measures are enforced across various cities in Pakistan to facilitate peaceful observance of religious events and protect participants.
Officials stated that the suspension is temporary and has been implemented due to security concerns associated with large public gatherings. Citizens have been advised to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and make necessary communication arrangements during the temporary disruption.
Meanwhile, the Punjab government has imposed Section 144 across the province, enforcing seven restrictions to help maintain peace during Muharram. The restrictions are intended to prevent any activities that could disturb public order and ensure the safety of mourners participating in processions and Majalis.
In Bahawalpur, authorities have announced that 26 mourning processions featuring symbolic Alams and Zuljanah will be taken out on the 7th of Muharram to commemorate the martyrs of Karbala. Additionally, 61 Majalis-e-Aza are scheduled across the district, while the historic Mehndi procession will begin at 4:00 PM from Imam Bargah Syed Roshan Ali Shah in Mohalla Aam Khas.
Security personnel have been deployed in large numbers across sensitive areas, with surveillance and monitoring intensified to ensure peaceful religious observances. Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant, follow official instructions, and avoid spreading unverified information on social media.
The temporary suspension of mobile services reflects the government’s commitment to safeguarding citizens during Muharram while ensuring that religious events are conducted peacefully and securely.
