PM Shehbaz Condemns Houthi Attacks, Reaffirms Pakistan’s Support for Saudi Security

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has condemned the latest Houthi attacks targeting Saudi Arabia, reaffirming Pakistan’s commitment to the kingdom’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and security under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement. His statement underscores the continued defence and diplomatic cooperation between Islamabad and Riyadh amid regional security tensions.
In a statement shared on the social media platform X on Friday, Shehbaz Sharif expressed concern over attacks targeting King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh and Abha International Airport. He also referred to reports of civilian casualties resulting from the attacks.
The prime minister expressed solidarity with Saudi Arabia and commended the vigilance and professionalism of the Saudi armed forces and the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen for intercepting ballistic missiles targeting the kingdom.
Shehbaz Sharif reiterated that Pakistan’s commitment to Saudi Arabia’s security remained unwavering under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement. He also referred to recent decisions taken by the agreement’s Strategic Political and Defence Committee, reaffirming Islamabad’s support for Riyadh in addressing security threats.
The prime minister stressed Pakistan’s support for Saudi Arabia’s right to self-defence and called on the Houthis to immediately cease their attacks. He emphasised the importance of protecting civilian lives and preventing further escalation of regional tensions.
Pakistan and Saudi Arabia maintain longstanding diplomatic, strategic and defence relations. The latest statement reflects Islamabad’s continued commitment to cooperation with Riyadh under their defence arrangement as security concerns persist in the region.
