Pakistan’s Federal Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has lodged a strong official protest against a foreign media organization over what it described as a false and misleading report concerning Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
In an official statement issued from Islamabad, the ministry said the report was based on unverified and unsubstantiated allegations that failed to reflect the actual facts on the ground. According to the government, the publication ignored official information and presented a misleading narrative regarding developments in Azad Kashmir.
The ministry stated that the foreign media outlet recently published inaccurate information about the closure of routes in Azad Kashmir, claiming that the report contradicted verified facts and official records. Authorities maintained that the claims made in the report did not accurately represent the situation in the region.
Officials also noted that the Government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir had already rejected the allegations contained in the report and issued clarifications describing them as baseless and misleading. The ministry emphasized that official statements had been released to provide accurate information and counter misinformation.
According to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, this was not the first instance in which the foreign broadcaster had published questionable or unverified content regarding Pakistan. The ministry expressed concern over what it described as a recurring pattern of publishing unconfirmed reports without adequate verification.
The government stressed that international media organizations have a professional responsibility to ensure accuracy, fairness, impartiality, and fact-based reporting, particularly when covering politically sensitive regions. It warned that publishing misleading information can create confusion, damage public trust, and misrepresent the actual situation on the ground.
The ministry reiterated that Pakistan fully supports press freedom and responsible journalism but expects media organizations to follow internationally accepted ethical standards, including proper verification of facts before publication.
Officials further urged international news organizations to avoid publishing unverified, misleading, or baseless reports, especially on matters involving sensitive regional issues. They called on media outlets to rely on credible sources and official information to ensure balanced and accurate reporting.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting also reaffirmed that it would continue taking appropriate steps to challenge misinformation and safeguard Pakistan’s position on international platforms whenever inaccurate reporting is identified.
The latest development highlights the ongoing importance of responsible journalism and accurate reporting in maintaining public trust, promoting transparency, and preventing the spread of misinformation on international affairs.
