The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a nationwide weather advisory forecasting widespread dust storms, windstorms, and rain-thunderstorms across several regions of the country from June 16 to June 20. According to the latest outlook, Karachi and its surrounding areas are also expected to receive dust storms accompanied by light rainfall, offering temporary relief from the prevailing heat.
The Met Office stated that a westerly wave is likely to enter the upper parts of Pakistan on June 16 and remain active until June 20. In addition, moist currents from the Arabian Sea are expected to penetrate upper and central regions of the country, creating conditions favorable for extensive weather activity.
In Punjab and Islamabad, scattered dust storms, strong winds, and rain-thunderstorms are expected in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, and Mandi Bahauddin. Isolated heavy rainfall and hailstorms may also occur during this period. Several other cities, including Lahore, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Sialkot, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Okara, Bahawalpur, Multan, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rahim Yar Khan, and Sargodha, are likely to experience similar conditions.
Sindh is also expected to witness unstable weather. Areas including Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Khairpur, Dadu, Ghotki, Kashmore, Shikarpur, and Shaheed Benazirabad may receive dust storms and thunderstorms. Meanwhile, Karachi and nearby districts are forecast to experience gusty winds along with light rain, which could bring some respite to residents affected by rising temperatures.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the PMD has predicted scattered thunderstorms and rain in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Bajaur, Abbottabad, Mansehra, Peshawar, Mardan, Kohat, Bannu, Dera Ismail Khan, and the tribal districts. Some areas may also witness hailstorms and isolated heavy downpours.

The weather department further stated that Azad Jammu and Kashmir may experience scattered rain and thunderstorms from June 16 to June 22, while Gilgit-Baltistan is likely to receive rainfall from June 18 to June 22. Heavy rainfall in mountainous regions may trigger landslides, while rising water levels could pose additional risks in vulnerable areas.
Authorities have warned that strong windstorms, hailstorms, and lightning strikes could damage electric poles, solar panels, trees, and billboards. Urban flooding is also possible in low-lying areas of Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, and Faisalabad during periods of intense rainfall.
The PMD has advised farmers to plan agricultural activities according to the weather forecast and urged tourists and travelers to avoid unnecessary journeys during adverse weather conditions. Citizens have also been encouraged to stay informed through official updates and take precautionary measures to ensure their safety throughout the forecast period.
