The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a spell of rain, dust storms, and thunderstorms in upper regions of Pakistan, bringing much-needed relief after a recent heatwave.
According to the Met Office, a fresh westerly weather system is expected to enter the northwestern parts of the country from Sunday evening and remain active until May 12. Under its influence, several areas are likely to experience rainfall accompanied by strong winds and thunderstorms.
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, districts including Chitral, Swat, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Peshawar and surrounding regions are expected to receive rain during this period.
Similarly, parts of Punjab and Islamabad, including Rawalpindi, Lahore, Sahiwal, Faisalabad, Gujranwala and Sialkot, are also likely to experience thunderstorms and rainfall.
The weather system will also impact Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir, where rain and windstorms are forecast between May 11 and May 13.
While upper regions may see a drop in temperatures, hot and dry conditions are expected to persist in southern parts of the country, including Sindh, south Punjab and parts of Balochistan.
Warnings & Advisory
The PMD has warned that strong winds, dust storms and lightning could damage weak infrastructure such as electricity poles, billboards and solar panels. There is also a risk of landslides in mountainous and vulnerable areas.
Authorities have advised farmers to plan agricultural activities carefully in light of the changing weather conditions. Tourists and travellers are urged to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary movement during severe weather conditions.
Relevant departments have been instructed to stay alert and take precautionary measures to minimize risks and ensure public safety.
The forecast is expected to bring temporary relief from soaring temperatures but may also pose challenges due to storm-related hazards.
