Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand will arrive in Pakistan on Monday for the first visit by a Canadian foreign minister in nearly two decades, marking a significant step in strengthening bilateral relations.
During her visit, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will hold talks with Anand on expanding cooperation in trade, investment, education and people-to-people exchanges. Both sides will also discuss regional and global developments of mutual interest.
According to Pakistan’s Foreign Office, Anand is expected to call on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif during her stay in Islamabad. The visit reflects the shared commitment of both countries to deepen engagement across multiple sectors.
Canada and Pakistan maintain close ties through a large Pakistani diaspora, with over 300,000 Canadians of Pakistani origin and around 20,000 Canadians living in Pakistan. Recent efforts to boost economic cooperation include negotiations on a Foreign Investment Promotion and Protection Agreement (FIPA) and bilateral political consultations held earlier this year.
The visit is expected to provide fresh momentum to Pakistan-Canada diplomatic and economic relations.
