per litre, providing partial relief to consumers following a decline in international oil prices. The revised fuel prices came into effect immediately and will remain applicable until July 10, 2026.
According to the official notification, the ex-depot price of petrol has been reduced from Rs299.50 to Rs297.53 per litre, while the price of high-speed diesel has been lowered from Rs311.47 to Rs309.50 per litre.
Although global petroleum prices declined more sharply during the past week, consumers received only part of the benefit because the government simultaneously increased the petroleum levy. Officials stated that without the higher levy, petrol prices could have fallen by nearly Rs11 per litre, while diesel prices may have dropped by around Rs4 per litre.
High-speed diesel remains one of Pakistan’s most important petroleum products due to its widespread use in transportation, agriculture, heavy machinery, and industrial sectors. Any change in diesel prices directly affects freight costs, food prices, and overall inflation across the country.
Fuel prices have fallen considerably from their record highs witnessed during the US-Iran conflict earlier this year. Diesel has declined significantly from its peak price of Rs520.35 per litre, while petrol has dropped from Rs458.41 per litre, offering substantial relief compared to previous months.
As part of Pakistan’s commitments under the International Monetary Fund (IMF) programme, the government recently increased the Climate Support Levy to Rs5 per litre from July 1 while adjusting the petroleum levy structure. Government taxes and levies continue to make up a significant portion of fuel prices, contributing substantially to national revenue.
Petrol and high-speed diesel continue to dominate Pakistan’s petroleum consumption, with combined monthly sales reaching between 700,000 and 800,000 tonnes. Economic experts will continue monitoring global crude oil prices and government tax policies to assess whether further fuel price adjustments are likely in the coming weeks.
