Punjab’s Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) has claimed a significant success in its ongoing campaign against terrorism after neutralising two alleged Fitna al-Khawarij militants, including a key commander, during an intelligence-based operation in Taunsa.
According to an official statement issued by the CTD spokesperson, the operation was conducted in the Taman Qaisrani tribal area after authorities received credible intelligence regarding the presence of approximately 12 to 15 heavily armed militants operating in the region.
Officials stated that the suspected militants were allegedly planning terrorist activities targeting populated areas in Koh-e-Suleman, Waha, and Taunsa tehsils. Acting on this information, CTD teams launched a carefully coordinated intelligence-based operation aimed at preventing potential attacks and safeguarding civilian lives.
The spokesperson said that CTD personnel utilised modern surveillance techniques, advanced weaponry, and drone technology to track the movements of the suspected militants. During the operation, an exchange of fire reportedly took place between security personnel and the armed suspects.
As a result of the encounter, two alleged terrorists were killed. Authorities stated that one of those neutralised was believed to be a commander associated with Fitna al-Khawarij, a term used by Pakistani authorities for the outlawed Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
The CTD further reported that two accomplices managed to escape from the scene while carrying their injured comrades. Security agencies have launched efforts to identify the deceased individuals and trace those who fled during the operation.
The successful operation reflects the increasing use of intelligence-led strategies and technological resources by law enforcement agencies to combat terrorism in sensitive regions of Punjab. Authorities continue to intensify operations aimed at disrupting militant networks and preventing planned attacks before they can be executed.
Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz praised the Counter-Terrorism Department for its actions in the Koh-e-Suleman region. In an official statement, she commended the CTD team for foiling what she described as the terrorists’ malicious intentions and successfully eliminating a key militant commander.
She reiterated that individuals entering Pakistan with intentions to spread violence and fear would face a firm response from the state. The chief minister emphasized that terrorists are enemies of humanity and that the government remains committed to protecting citizens and maintaining peace and stability.
Maryam Nawaz also reaffirmed Punjab’s determination to eradicate terrorism through coordinated efforts involving intelligence agencies, law enforcement institutions, and provincial authorities. She stressed that the safety of citizens and the protection of their lives and property remain top priorities.
Security experts note that intelligence-based operations have become an essential component of Pakistan’s counter-terrorism strategy. Timely action based on credible intelligence can significantly reduce threats and prevent large-scale incidents targeting civilians and public infrastructure.
While investigations continue and efforts remain underway to identify the slain militants and apprehend the escaped suspects, the latest operation underscores the ongoing challenges posed by militant activity and the state’s continued efforts to address security threats through proactive measures.
