The Sindh Cabinet has approved an increase in the conveyance allowance for provincial government employees in Grades 1 to 16, providing financial relief amid rising transportation costs.
Announcing the decision after a cabinet meeting, Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said the provincial government had approved several key initiatives aimed at improving governance, public welfare, infrastructure, and disaster preparedness.
The cabinet also extended the health insurance programme for employees of the Governor House and Chief Minister House for another six months. Additionally, specialized task forces have been established to focus on the economy, investment, finance, water resources, climate change, and artificial intelligence (AI).
As part of public health measures, the Sindh government approved a strict crackdown on the production, sale, and distribution of gutka and mainpuri. The Department of Narcotics Control has been tasked with enforcing the ban, while new legislation is also being prepared to strengthen legal action against the illegal trade.
Addressing food security, Sharjeel Memon announced plans to import 500,000 metric tons of wheat and purchase additional stocks from PASSCO to stabilize market supplies and discourage hoarding. The government believes these measures will help maintain wheat availability and reduce market manipulation.
The cabinet also approved the development of a 400-acre truck terminal on Karachi’s Northern Bypass to improve transport infrastructure and ease traffic congestion.
Regarding the ongoing monsoon season, the minister said all provincial departments and emergency response agencies remain on high alert, with authorities closely monitoring weather conditions across Sindh.
